One of many beautiful beaches on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

The great city of Boston as seen from the Charles River. A world renowned city known for its high quality infrastructures of education, medicine, and technology.

The incredible site of White Sands National Monument just north of Las Cruces.  It boasts the largest area of naturally created white (gypsum) sand in the world.

The view of Las Cruces from the Organ Mountains. Gorgeous desert and mountain landscape surround the city of Las Cruces.

After obtaining my Bachelor's degree, I spent my days working in and around the city of Boston as a technical writer for 17 years.  I primarily worked within the IT departments of several financial services companies, documenting and supporting software development initiatives. While working, I continued my education, earning a Certificate in Technical Writing from Northeastern University and a Master's degree in Communication from Suffolk University.

After the economic crisis of 2008/2009, I decided it was time for a change.  So, I started looking around the country for a new home where the weather is tolerable all year round and the living expenses are more manageable.  After a tour of parts of the Southwest (Austin, TX to Albuquerque, NM), I decided on Las Cruces, New Mexico.  I spent one night there and I knew I was destined for a new and rewarding life in this beautiful small desert city.

In January 2010, I sold my house in Massachusetts and began the trek across country to the desert of southern New Mexico.  Shortly after my arrival in Las Cruces, I started volunteering at the local Heritage Museum in order to become more familiar with my new surroundings.  I also began to pursue a lifelong dream of teaching.

MY STORY

I was born in Rhode Island and raised in Massachusetts.  I am the youngest of nine children and the first in my family to earn an  undergraduate degree.  I lived in several towns south of Boston, including a few on Cape Cod where I graduated from high school.

The Journey West

Destiny

In October 2010, I started teaching technical and professional writing courses online for DeVry University.  This prompted me to apply to PhD programs in hopes of solidifying my new teaching career.  In 2012, I began my journey with UTEP in El Paso, Texas as a PhD student of Rhetoric and Composition.  In addition to being a student, I am both a teacher and researcher in the field of Rhetoric and Composition.

My experience at UTEP has been one of the most rewarding and challenging of my life.  I will take all that I have learned from that experience with me in my new adventure at the University of Houston beginning in the fall 2016.
