Assistant Instructor - Undergraduate Rhetoric and Writing Studies Program
The University of Texas at El Paso, 2012-Present

 

  • RWS3359 – Technical Writing (2 Courses):  Instructed students during four week long online course; created curriculum, including syllabus, assignments and course structure; student assignments consisted of proposal memos, progress memos, course reflection evaluation, textbook case studies, and a technical user manual for the course project

 

  • RWS1301 – Rhetoric and Composition I:  Facilitate classroom learning in genres; teach students to recognize and analyze rhetorical situations in critical and independent thinking skills; help students with their comprehension of discourse communities, academic research and writing in specific contexts; engage students in reflecting on their writing process; course conducted in a face-to-face format

 

  • RWS1302 – Rhetoric and Composition II:  Facilitate classroom learning in critical and independent thinking skills; help students with their comprehension of discourse communities, literature reviews, and writing genres; teach students to recognize and analyze rhetorical situations in specific contexts; engage students in reflecting on their writing process; course conducted in a hybrid online/face-to-face format

 

  • ENGL3355 Workplace Writing: Instruct students on critical decision-making within a professional context; further learning by applying principles of professional rhetoric; promote strategies for planning, organizing and presenting written and oral communication for a workplace environment; course conducted in a hybrid online/face-to-face format

 

  • ENGL1312 – Research and Critical Writing (3 courses):  Facilitated classroom learning using instructional lectures and activities that promote critical thinking skills; helped students in their comprehension of genres, discourse communities, and multi-modal technologies as it relates to composition structures; promoted student learning with peer reviews, group activities, and oral presentations; course conducted in a hybrid online/face-to-face format

 

  • Pre-teaching activities (fall 2012):  Provided student feedback and graded first year composition assignments while being trained in teaching and grading practices; observed seasoned instructors on pedagogical practices in the classroom

  • ENGL206 -Technical Writing (17 courses):  Facilitated student learning online with an audience focused curriculum; student assignments included writing and editing memos, writing instructions and procedures, creating a formal research report, PowerPoint presentation, and conducting peer reviews in both a collaborative and individual learning environment

 

  • ENGL216 - Technical Communication (3 courses):  Taught students online in the various forms of technical communication; student assignments included writing a proposal, progress report, formal report, and PowerPoint presentation in both a collaborative and individual learning environment

 

  • ENGL227 - Professional Writing (1 course):  Instructed students online by promoting a process-oriented approach for business writing; stressed the understanding of audience in creating effective professional communications through memos, emails, reports, proposals and research  

                                  

  • All Classes: Directed discussion threads, provided rubric feedback, and administered grades in the eCollege online platform during 8 week course sessions
